What is Zinc Oxide Tape?
Zinc oxide tape is a type of adhesive tape that is made with non stretch cotton and a zinc oxide-based adhesive. It is commonly used in medicine for dressing wounds and supporting joints and muscles.
Substrate
The substrate of zinc oxide tape is typically made of 100% cotton or rayon. The substrate is important because it determines the strength and durability of the tape.
Adhesive
The adhesive used in zinc oxide tape is made of zinc oxide and a rubber-based adhesive. The zinc oxide helps to provide a strong bond while also offering a degree of moisture resistance.
Width and Length
Zinc oxide tape is available in various widths, typically ranging from 1.25cm, 2.50cm, 5.0cm, 7.5cm, 10cm, 15cm. Length available in 3m, 4m, 4.5m, 5m, 9m, 10m.
Color
Zinc oxide tape is usually white or tan in color, but can also be found in other colors such as black, red, blue, grey, purple, green, orange and etc.
Usage
Zinc oxide tape is commonly used in medicine for dressing wounds and supporting joints and muscles. It can be used to secure dressings, as well as to provide support to joints and muscles, such as the ankle or knee.
Benefits
Zinc oxide tape has several benefits, including its strength, durability, and moisture resistance. It also provides good adhesive strength and can be easily torn by hand, making it easy to use in the field.
Application
*Before application, please ensure that the area to which you will apply the tape is free of creams, lotions, oils or any other foreign substance. This will ensure that the tape will adhere properly to the skin. If necessary, we suggest removal or trimming of bodily hair as this too will interfere with the tape’s ability to stick to the skin. It will also make removal more painful.
*You can cut the tape to get the amount you need but you will often find it easier to just tear it with your hands. Its serrated edges will make it even easier to do this.
*You can use an adherent tape spray if you want to minimize its migration while being worn.
*To avoid wrinkles, smooth each strip of tape with fingers or hands as it is being applied.
*Do not apply on individuals with broken skin or rashes.
*Porous Zinc Oxide Tape has relatively low elasticity (i.e. will not stretch). Be careful to not apply it too tightly or it may interfere with your circulation. If you experience any numbness, tingling or unusual sensations in or near the area of application, you should remove the tape immediately and consult a physician.
